CONCEPT

No âmbito da programação promovida pela autarquia para dinamizar a cidade, nasceu em 2004 a 1ª edição do MED, com a ideia de concretizar um festival de “música diferente e único”, que potenciasse a promoção do concelho. Assim, promover e revitalizar a Zona Histórica da cidade, numa perspetiva de dinamização cultural e, simultaneamente, de divulgação da cultura dos países da Bacia do Mediterrâneo, e da imagem turística em tempo de verão constituíram, em termos gerais, os objetivos da sua realização. Do Mediterrâneo partiu-se para uma escala global, alargando-se o conceito à música e culturas do mundo. Ao longo de 21 edições, o Festival MED foi-se consolidando como evento-âncora no contexto regional, nacional e europeu.

The number of visitors and “supporters” grew year after year, and thus the enclosure has been expanding with each edition. On the other hand, the MED Festival is an initiative that contributes significantly to the promotion, recovery, enhancement and sustainability of the existing building spaces and preservation of its historical heritage. In terms of tourism activity, since its inception, the MED Festival has had the aim of encouraging sustainable tourism, promoting quality and fostering the creation of differentiating factors.
