Mikhail Shumov (cello) and Joana Vieira Shumova (piano) created the Caminus Duo in 2009, showing themselves as a promising duo from an early age, having performed in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Russia and Italy and also participated in masterclasses, namely with Natália Gutman.
Mikhail Shumov was born in Moscow, where he studied with Zoia Kuimova and Igor Gavrysh at the Gnesin State Music School and the Moscow State Conservatory of Music “P. Tchaikovsky", respectively. He also obtained the 'Postgraduate Diploma' with Distinction from the Royal College of Music in 2010, where he studied with Aleksander Boyarsky. He participated in several solo and chamber music competitions, having been awarded on several occasions. He has performed in various concert halls in Russia, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia and Canada. He also had the opportunity to work with renowned musicians such as Natalia Gutman and Stefan Popov and conductors such as T. Rimes (Washington National Opera), L. Arner (Metropolitan Opera), P. Mazzagatti (New-York Dicapo Opera), Lawrence Foster and Joana Carneiro (Orchestra Calouste Gulbenkian). He is currently head of section at Orquestra do Algarve and professor at the Conservatório de Música de Loulé – Francisco Rosado.
Joana Vieira Shumova began her musical studies at the “Maria Campina” Conservatory in the class of teacher Oxana Anikeeva. In 2005, she was admitted to ESML, where she studied with Professor Tânia Achot. Still under his supervision, he completed his degree at the Piaget Institute in Almada (2008). Between 2008-2012 he studied at the Royal College of Music in London (with an artistic improvement scholarship awarded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), under the guidance of Professor Ashley Wass, having obtained a Master's degree in performance with distinction (2010), Artist Diploma ( 2011) and also the master's degree in performance sciences with distinction (2012). Awarded in national and international competitions, Joana has performed in Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Spain, Italy, Belgium and the Czech Republic. He has worked with renowned musicians such as Tamas Vasary, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, Sequeira Costa, Galina Eguiazarova, Vitaly Margulis, Luiz de Moura Castro and Niklas Siveløv. Joana is also frequently active as a teacher at the Loulé Conservatory of Music – Francisco Rosado, and a co-repetitor pianist.
