When, at just 13 years old, she won the Great Night of Fado, Sara Correia was already a name known to real fans of this centenary musical genre. After all, not only did she grow up in a family of fado singers in Marvila, but she herself began singing very early in fado houses, such as Bacalhau de Molho, Fado em Si, Páteo de Alfama or Mesa de Frades, where she began. And at 15 years old, still a teenager, she was invited to join the professional group of the renowned royal Casa de Linhares, in Alfama, where she sang alongside heavyweights like Celeste Rodrigues, Maria da Nazaré or Jorge Fernando, whom she still considers today to be “greats masters”. The first record in her own name, homonymous, arrived in 2018 and was received with total acclaim by the critics and earned her, in the following year, two nominations in the first edition of the Play awards, the Awards of Portuguese Music, in the Best Fado Album and Breakthrough Artist categories. The “great voice of the new generation”, as she came to be nicknamed, then began to travel the world, with more than 30 concerts in places as unlikely as South Korea, Norway, Reunion Island, India, Belgium or Chile. And if there were any doubts, the so-called difficult test of the second album was passed with complete distinction in September 2020, with Do Coração,in which, in addition to traditional Fado, he also sings compositions made exclusively for her voice, by people like Joana Sword, Carolina Deslandes, Luísa Sobral, António Zambujo, Jorge Cruz and Diogo Clemente. She won the PLAY Portuguese Music Award, in the “Best Fado Album” category and was also nominated for the Latin Grammy for best roots music album in Portuguese. In between, she gave voice to the song Quero é Viverby António Variações, proving that in addition to being a Fado singer, she is also a real pop artist.
