SAMIFATI, a duo hailing from Nantes, France, challenges musical conventions by merging violin with electronic music, exploring the intersection between traditional music and a modern, innovative approach. This project is further enriched by an imaginative and captivating visual presentation.
As tireless travelers, SAMIFATI collaborated with gnawa musicians Maâlem Amine Bessi, Hamouda Benzaid and Ahmed Labnoua to create the “Transe Gnawa Express”. This project - named after one of the seminal works of electronic masters Kraftwerk - results in an electrifying combination of Moroccan gnawa music and SAMIFATI's electronic futurism, offering one of the most intense and stimulating stage performances today.
"Destinations", SAMIFATI's debut album released in 2021, is a true ode to musical and visual journey. After five years of tours and creative encounters around the world, the duo returned with a collection of images, sounds and vinyl records that serve as both sensory memories and inspirations for new creations. This album takes us on a journey through Egypt, Indonesia, South Korea, Pakistan, Morocco, Thailand, Burkina Faso and Benin.
Rich in encounters and discoveries, these experiences profoundly transformed Axel and Sami, inspiring them to create this inaugural work of their discography. The album combines field recordings, traditional instruments and songs in local languages with images of streets, landscapes, and everyday scenes, akin to a travel diary. This work not only marks the artistic trajectory of the group but also helps us understand their decision to now delve into the sounds and culture of Gnawa.
