Idiotape's sound journey is unmistakably retro-futuristic, blending cutting-edge electronic styles with nods to analog sounds and a healthy dose of rock influences. Based in Seoul, this trio consists of producer and DJ Dguru, synthesizer maestro Zeze and drummer DR, and they have carved out their niche since 2010. Over this time, they have released three albums and two EPs, distinguishing themselves with their unique electronic sound and electrifying live performances that draw comparisons to acts like Daft Punk, Chromeo, and Cut Copy. However, Idiotape's influences run deeper, touching on the legacy of local luminaries from the 60s and 70s, such as Shin Jung-hyeon, the revered "godfather of rock" in Korea.
From the outset, Idiotape captivated the music scene in Seoul and soon the rest of South Korea. Their debut album, "11111101", won the "Best Dance & Electronic Album" at the 2012 Korean Music Awards, establishing them as a significant presence. Their international debut came as the opening act for heavyweights Phoenix and Fatboy Slim, catapulting them to tour North America and Europe, including stages at Glastonbury and SXSW.
In 2023, Idiotape released tracks like "Acid Punk" and "Vladimir Komarov", powerful electronic visions crafted for the dance floor, signaling where the trio is headed in the near future. As they continue to evolve, the future looks promising for Idiotape, with their innovative approach and unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of electronic music.
