Gil Fesch and Nuno Pinto – Duo de Guitarras

Musician, sociologist, editor and cultural programme maker. Gil Fesch was born in Porto in 1985. He has a degree and a master's in music performance performance - from the The School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) and the Hochschule für Musik Basel - and began his musical studies with Pedro Fesch, after which he was tutored by guitarists José Pina and Stephan Schmidt.

During his training, he devoted himself in particular to the study of contemporary music, benefiting from contact with figures such as Helmut Lachenmann, Sofia Gubaidulina and Georg Friedrich Haas. He has shared the stage with Stephan Schmidt, Ivan Monighetti and Alexander Rudin, among others, in a career in which his debut with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, conducted by Daniel Klajner, stands out. He regularly collaborates with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, and has been conducted by conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Lorenzo Viotti, Hannu Lintu and Magnus Lindberg.

With a PhD in sociology from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, Gil Fesch has produced and edited work in the fields of theatre, aesthetics, contemporary music history, social theory, cultural policies and artistic programming.

Since 2019, he has been responsible for the production and management of Orquestra XXI concerts. As a musician, but also as a producer, he has been directly involved in national premieres of works by authors such as Dai Fujikura, Hans Werner Henze, Jonathan Harvey, Justė Janulytė, Rebecca Saunders and Steve Reich.

Born in Porto, Nuno Marques Pinto is a multi-instrumentalist who dedicates himself mainly to chamber music and contemporary creation. Both on electric guitar and classical guitar, along with mandolin and electric bass, he has collaborated with groups such as Ensemble Vertixe Sonora (Spain), KapModern (Germany), Collective Lovemusic (France), Ensemble LUX:NM (Germany), Ensemble Tempus Konnex (Germany), Ensemble El Perro Andaluz (Germany), TAL Trio (Portugal), Contemporary Insights (Germany) and Lucerne Academy (Switzerland).

As a soloist, he has performed with the Sinfonieorchester Basel (Switzerland), the Orquestra XXI (Portugal) and the Orquestra de la Marina Alta (Spain).

He has also won prizes at competitions such as the B.O.G. Foundation Competition (Switzerland), the Fundão International Guitar Competition (Portugal), the Josefina Robledo International Competition (Spain), the RDP Young Musicians Award (Portugal) and the Victor Pellegrini International Guitar Competition (Switzerland).

Nuno Marques Pinto studied classical guitar with Professor Maria Paula Marques and Professor José Pina, and completed two master's programmes at the Hochschule für Musik Basel (Switzerland) with Professor Stephan Schmidt.
