Vieux Farka Touré

(ML)

Often described as the ‘Hendrix of the Sahara’, Vieux Farka Touré was born in 1981 in Niafunké, Mali. He is the son of the iconic Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré, who died in 2006. A member of a proud tribe of warriors, Ali Farka Touré defied his family's expectations to pursue a career in music, leaving a legacy that Vieux would inherit and transform. In 2011, Vieux released his third studio album, ‘The Secret’, a title that reflects the album's deep connection to the essence of the blues. This acclaimed record blended generations, interweaving the musical influences of father and son into a timeless narrative. Produced by Eric Krasno of Soulive, ‘The Secret’ featured South African vocalist Dave Matthews, slide guitar virtuoso Derek Trucks and jazz guitar legend John Scofield. The title track is particularly moving, representing the last collaboration between Vieux and his late father.

With the release of ‘The Secret’, Vieux Farka Touré has cemented his place as one of the world's most exceptional guitarists and musical innovators. His unique style perfectly honours the roots of the past, while charting a bold path for the future. Since then, he has released several other outstanding works, such as ‘Mon Pays’, ‘Touristes’, ‘Les racines’ or the most recent ‘Ali’, albums that affirm his constant evolution and which have garnered the highest praise from the international press.
