Systema Solar is an innovative musical and visual collective from Colombia's Caribbean coast. Drawing inspiration from a rich diversity of regional and sonic influences, its members have found in the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Caribbean music an inexhaustible source of inspiration to renew and reimagine Colombian musical traditions. Their mission is to create dynamic audiovisual performances , developing a unique style they call ‘berbenautika’. Inspired by the energy of Colombia's piko culture (performances no estilo performances, the members of Systema Solar come together to create, adapt and reinvent music through improvisation, with an emphasis on joy and dance. Formed at the end of 2006 for a performance at the opening ceremony of the Medellín Biennial of Contemporary Art (MDE07), the collective has toured Colombia several times and released their debut album, ‘Systema Solar’, in 2009. ‘Fiesta’ is the apt title of their latest creation, an energetic and danceable musical mix that evokes the wild energy of Barranquilla's carnival, reimagined through the lens of global club culture.
