Carminho's career has a justly international dimension because the scale of her talent cannot be contained by borders, as she demonstrated when she was recently selected to perform on NPR's famous Tiny Desk Concert series, rivalling some of the biggest global stars. The Lisbon fado singer's trip to the United States for such an important performance followed the release of her latest project, a four-song EP recorded at Electrical Audio, the mythical studio of the late producer Steve Albini, who died unexpectedly a few months before the disc saw the light of day. The opening track of 'Carminho at Electrical Audio' is ‘Os Argonautas’, a classic song by Caetano Veloso, the Brazilian music legend who stars alongside the Portuguese singer in this latest version.

The idea of hearing Carminho's voice ‘in the hands’ of such a renowned producer in the more alternative sphere of rock probably wouldn't have crossed the minds of almost anyone who has followed her work. But the truth is that, as she has revealed in various interviews, the fado singer has long been an admirer of Albini's work with bands like Nirvana or the Pixies and artists like PJ Harvey, whom she points to as a major reference. The fado singer, who has made a name for herself with works such as ‘Portuguesa’, ‘Maria’ or ‘Canto’, ‘Alma’ and ‘Fado’, has one of the most solid and rigorous journeys through the music that is now Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
