Afonso Dias is a singer, composer and lyricist, poet, actor and theatre director, poetry writer and member of the Advisory Board of AJA – Associação José Afonso.

He campaigned against the Dictatorship, and sang in the 60s and 70s in countless solo sessions or alongside Zeca Afonso, Francisco Fanhais, Samuel, Pedro Lobo Antunes, Pedro Barroso and many others.

Together with Fausto, José Mário Branco and Tino Flores, he was, in 1974, one of the founders of GAC – Grupo de Acção Cultural, in which he participated in the production and recording of three LPs and eight EPs, and in hundreds of shows between 1974 and 1978.
In 1979 he recorded his first solo album “O que vale e pena” with his songs and poems and Hélia Correia and José Fanha.

Since 2001 he has covered the Schools saying and singing poetry. In this activity he has held more than 1800 sessions and has been with more than 170 000 students.

For about 50 years he has been singing and saying poetry, in Portugal and across Europe – Germany, Holland and France…

In this edition of the Festival MED he will bring us, each night, two moments of around 40 minutes, with different themes.
