CONCEPT

As part of the programme promoted by the Municipality to revitalise the city, the 1st edition of the Festival MED started in 2004, with the idea of carrying out a festival with “different and unique music”. Thus, promoting and revitalising the Historic Area of the city, in a perspective of cultural dynamism and, simultaneously, the dissemination of the culture of the countries of the Mediterranean Basin, and the tourist image in summer time constituted, in general, the objectives of its execution. From the Mediterranean, we moved to a global scale, expanding the concept to the music and cultures of the world. Over 18 editions, the Festival MED has consolidated itself as an anchor event in the regional, national and European context.

The number of visitors and “followers” grew year after year, so the area has been enlarging practically every edition. On the other hand, the Festival MED is an initiative that contributes significantly to the promotion, recovery, enhancement and sustainability of built spaces and preservation of built historical heritage. In terms of tourism activity, since its origin, the Festival MED has had the aim of encouraging sustainable tourism, promoting quality and fostering the creation of distinctive factors.
