MAZGANI

(PT/IR)

Mazgani's artistic journey is truly unique. Shahryar Mazgani was born in Iran in 1974 but moved to Portugal at the age of 5. His family left their homeland in 1979 due to the Iranian Revolution, which established a fundamentalist regime.

Mazgani's discography began in 2007 with the release of "Song of The New Heart". Even before this debut, significant publications like Les Inrockuptibles praised his art. This acclaim was further solidified when the track "Somewhere Beneath This Sky", included in his first album, earned third place in a prestigious competition in Nashville, USA, judged by top artists such as Tom Waits and Robert Smith of The Cure.

His discography includes four more albums, including "The Poet’s Death" in 2017, where Mazgani showcased his distinct songwriting style, refined through careful listening to classics that garnered strong critical acclaim. In "Lifeboat", released in 2015, he paid homage to influential figures who shaped his musical identity, from Cole Porter to Leonard Cohen and Elvis Presley.

Now, in 2024, after a hiatus in his career, Mazgani returns with a significant new development marked by the recent release of "A Chama", a single that heralds his first album entirely sung in Portuguese. This self-imposed challenge allows him to reinvent himself while staying true to the singer-songwriter scene where he has always excelled.
