KUMBIA BORUKA

(MX/CL/AR/FR)

Kumbia Boruka has been shaking sound systems worldwide since 2010, offering a fresh perspective on the internationally recognized Afro-Caribbean rhythm known as Cumbia. Originating from the "Century of Enlightenment" and its impact along the Atlantic coast of Colombia, Cumbia is the result of cultural encounters between Amerindian, African and European influences, becoming over generations one of Latin America's most celebrated musical genres.

In the 1960s, Cumbia found a safe haven in the mountains of Nuevo León, northeastern Mexico, where it solidified as part of the cultural and identity movement known as "Kolombia". Raised in this environment, Hernan Cortés Nava developed an early interest in the rhythm and honed his connection to its distinctive swing through dedicated percussion studies. Following his time accompanying the legendary “Rebelde del acordéon” (Rebel of the Accordion), Celso Piña, Hernan absorbed a passion for the accordion and founded Kumbia Boruka.

Since their arrival in Lyon, France in 2010, Hernan and his band of 8 musicians have built a reputation across Europe and Latin America, solidifying their status through numerous artistic collaborations. With albums like "La Vida se Vive" and "El Remedio", Kumbia Boruka has garnered enthusiastic reviews praising their unique interpretation of Cumbia's nuances. After over 400 European concerts, the group's contagious energy continues to captivate audiences globally, a testament to the intense stage presence they conjure. The collective's third album, "Santa Suerte", released in late 2023, keeps the vibrant and welcoming essence of Cumbia alive through modern and imaginative approaches, ensuring the genre's legacy thrives in contemporary music scenes worldwide.
