BIXIGA 70

(BR)

The big band Bixiga 70 made a triumphant return with their latest studio album, "Vapor", released in 2023. Comprising seven tracks, this album marks a new chapter for the group since their last release, "Quebra Cabeça," in 2018, with changes in their lineup.

The band now includes keyboardist Pedro Regada and percussionists Valentina Facury and Amanda Teles. The album also features Simone Sou (drums), Rômulo Nardes (percussion), Mayara Almeida (saxophone and flute), Marcelle Barreto (keyboards) and Vítor Cabral (drums).

Internationally recognized as "groove visionaries", Bixiga 70 emerged in São Paulo in 2010, during the Afrobeat resurgence inspired by Fela Kuti. The collective's name comes from guitarist Cristiano Scabello's studio location in the heart of Bixiga (Bela Vista) neighborhood in São Paulo, Brazil.

In addition to Cristiano Scabello, the band includes Cuca Ferreira (baritone sax), Douglas Antunes (trombone), Daniel Nogueira (tenor sax), Daniel Verano (trumpet), and Marcelo Dworecki (bass). In their latest project, the band embraces new influences brought by keyboardist Regada, presenting a fresh approach to Afrobeat's classic beat.

At the core of Bixiga 70's style is their ability to innovate while creating universally appealing music. They balance modernity with retro horns and organic percussion, drawing inspiration from deep connections between West Africa and Brazil or the Caribbean. "Vapor", their invigorating fifth album, is more than a comeback; it's a rebirth. The album overflows with joy, featuring powerful melodies driven by vibrant horns and polyrhythms that invite listeners to dance.
