If you think kuduro is exempt from causing skin burns, Throes + The Shine will quickly change your mind with their acidified take on the Luso-Angolan beat aesthetic. The band, comprised of Mob Dedaldino, Igor Domingues and Marco Castro, returned to releases two years after "Aqui" with their latest work, "Kalunga," featuring a collection of eight corrosive tracks in what marks their sixth full-length album. Electronic production plays an even more significant role here than in previous records. Live, this translates into an absolutely unstoppable and contagious performance style that has enabled them to energize crowds across the globe.
Since their emergence in 2012 with "Rockuduro", Throes + The Shine have proven to be an entirely original and even revolutionary aesthetic proposition, particularly at a time when African influences in the national music scene were gaining traction. The project has since evolved, releasing multiple albums and hit singles including "Mambors de Outros Tipos" (2014), "Wanga" (2016), and "Enza" (2019), which spawned dancefloor hits like "Guerreros" and "Balança". Tracks like "Banzelo" from "Aqui" and "Tá Queimar" from the latest "Kalunga" showcase the refinement and evolution of this group's incredible musical vision, increasingly attuned to the global vibe of international dancefloors.
