KO SHIN MOON

(FR)

Ko Shin Moon conjures a unique musical vision in the center of Paris, blending traditional melodies with modern electronic beats. Led by Niko Shin and Axel Moon, the project navigates between psychedelia and echoes of late 70s electronic disco sound. Influenced by a lineage of experimentalists such as Haruomi Hosono (referencing one of this influential Japanese artist's classic albums), David Byrne, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, their music embodies a philosophy of cosmopolitanism and hybridity.

From their debut in 2017, Ko Shin Moon made it clear they were interested in exploratory music capable of traversing genres, geographies and eras. This attitude earned them an invitation from the National Library of France (BnF) to delve into its vast sound archive, which includes recordings from around the world. The challenge was to create new pieces exclusively from 78 rpm records. The result was the album "78 Fragments," an exercise in transforming historical sounds into contemporary art. In 2020, "Leïla Nova", their third release, found them focusing on organic instrumentation, creating a cosmic synthesis of diverse musical worlds.

Live performances are a critical element of Ko Shin Moon's artistic expression. Their shows have captivated audiences at prestigious festivals such as Trans Musicales, Nuits Sonores, Tremo and Winnipeg Folk Festival. Their tours have taken them across Europe, the UK, North Africa, the Levant and Canada, with each performance offering an immersive hearing and dance experience. The "Miniature" series is Ko Shin Moon's latest musical adventure, celebrating Mediterranean pop and folk cultures, inviting listeners on a journey through space and time.
