47SOUL, a Palestinian musical collective formed in Jordan in 2013, pioneered the Shamstep genre. This unique fusion of hip-hop, electronic and R&B music incorporates vibrant sounds of Dabke – a traditional folk dance – and other Shaabi-rooted music from the Levant, creating an unmistakable style.

In 2015, their groundbreaking debut EP “Shamstep” not only gave rise to the genre’s name but also attracted a new audience to the traditional music of Bilad Al Sham. The group's move to the United Kingdom marked a new phase in their career, culminating in the release of their debut album “Balfron Promise”, in 2018. This was followed by an impressive series of over 160 live performances at concerts and festivals. The Guardian newspaper described the music from their debut album as possessing “high energy” and exuding “confidence” and “good humor”. The following year, 47SOUL began recording their second album, released in 2020 under the title “Semitics”. It featured collaborations with artists such as Lowkey, Fedzilla, and Shadia Mansour, further expanding the group's reach and influence.

Over the decade since their establishment, 47SOUL has toured the world, gaining a significant following in Arab countries and the global diaspora. Memorable appearances on NPR's popular Tiny Desk Concert series and KEXP sessions have solidified their international reputation. 47SOUL continues to promote the Shamstep movement with their distinctive sound, infectious energy and bilingual lyrics addressing political and philosophical themes, as well as calls for recognition of the common humanity of all people.
