Born in 2004 on the streets of Sintra, Kumpania Algazarra celebrate in 2024 twenty years of a vibrant and multifaceted career. These modern troubadours quickly established themselves as one of Portugal's most dynamic brass bands, creating an unmistakable sound that blends ska, folk, reggae, Balkan beats, Latin rhythms and funk.
Over these two decades, the band has released an EP and nine albums, and toured the world with hundreds of concerts, always with the same contagious energy. In 2024, they marked the fiftieth anniversary of the 1974 Revolution and paid homage to Zeca Afonso with the single "O que faz Falta", reinterpreting the classic with their unique signature.
Shortly before, in October 2023, they released "Histórias e Raízes", enriched with collaborations from JP Simões, Jacqueline Carvalho, Marcelo Almeida, Synik, among others – a revisitation of traditional Portuguese music with Kumpania Algazarra's distinctive flavor.
With multiculturalism at its core, reflected in its varied influences and showcased in its intense live performances, Kumpania Algazarra have stirred streets and stages across Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia and Germany. Highlights include their victory in the "Mercè a Banda" competition in 2008 at the La Mercè festivities in Barcelona, and their participation in the Cultural Meetings of Portuguese Language in Rio de Janeiro in 2010.
On the national scene, the band has been a constant presence at major festivals. At each show, Kumpania Algazarra create a vibrant celebration where interaction with the audience turns every performance into a unique experience.
