Cristina Branco possesses one of the most fascinating vocals in Portuguese music. Starting from fado and always seeking new contexts for her voice, new poems and new music for her art, in 2007 she surprised with a heartfelt tribute to José Afonso with the album "Abril". In 2024, looking back at this special moment from her past makes perfect sense, as it marks the first half-century since the revolution that brought us Freedom.
In this show, Cristina revisits the original lineup of 16 tracks from "Abril", delivering celebrated songs like "Menino d’Oiro", "Venham Mais Cinco", "Redondo Vocábulo", "A Morte Saiu à Rua", and "Índios da Meia Praia", each one an authentic gem in Zeca Afonso's repertoire.
Alongside her in this special performance, Cristina will be accompanied by musicians of tremendous caliber, primarily from the jazz world, but with a deep affinity for other genres, reflecting their artistic freedom: on piano, Ricardo Dias; on electric guitar, Mário Delgado; on double bass, Bernardo Moreira; and on drums, André Sousa Machado. From this precious combination of exceptional vocals, highly skilled musicians, and an outstanding repertoire emerges a show that celebrates the great achievement that has brought us to 2024.
The artist behind "Mãe", released in 2023, has a prolific career with an extensive discography spanning 18 titles, yet "Abril" remains one of her most brilliant recordings.
