During this week, in\u00a0<em>stand<\/em>\u00a0of the Municipality of Loul\u00e9 and at \u201cEspa\u00e7o Algarve\u201d, through moments of presentation, the public that passes through this event will get to know some details about what is expected for what is one of the highlights of summer entertainment in the Algarve.<\/p>\n<p><strong>90 hours of music<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>66 concerts<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>400 musicians<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>18 nationalities<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>12 stages<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>100 handicraft exhibitors<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>4 art exhibitions<\/strong>\u00a0scattered around the premises and\u00a0<strong>8 groups<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>street animation<\/strong>\u00a0that will go through the streets and alleys of the festival every day are some of the numbers for this year.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.cm-loule.pt\/upload_files\/client_id_1\/website_id_1\/images\/GAP\/Med%202023%20na%20BTL-2.jpg\" alt=\"Multim\u00e9dia0\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At this moment, the Municipality &quot;lifts the veil&quot; and announced today the first 17 names that will take the stage in the 5 days with the best of the world&#039;s music. Are they: <strong>Amadou&amp;Mariam\u00a0<\/strong>(Mali),\u00a0<strong>Amaro Freitas<\/strong>\u00a0(Brazil),\u00a0<strong>AYWA<\/strong>\u00a0(Morocco\/France),\u00a0<strong>BandaAdriatica<\/strong>\u00a0(Italy),\u00a0<strong>Bandua<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal),\u00a0<strong>hit killed<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal),\u00a0<strong>Bia Ferreira<\/strong>\u00a0(Brazil),\u00a0<strong>Bulimundo<\/strong>\u00a0(Cape Verde),\u00a0<strong>Club Makumba<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal),\u00a0<strong>Horace Andy<\/strong>\u00a0(Jamaica),\u00a0<strong>Lavoisier<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal),\u00a0<strong>Omar Souleyman<\/strong>\u00a0(Syria),\u00a0<strong>Onipa<\/strong>\u00a0(Ghana\/UK),\u00a0<strong>Sara Correia<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal),\u00a0<strong>Sarah McCoy<\/strong>\u00a0(USA),\u00a0<strong>S\u00e9tima Legi\u00e3o<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal) and\u00a0<strong>Pedro Mafama<\/strong>\u00a0(Portugal).<\/p>\n<p>One of the highlights is the return of Jamaican Horace Andy, a veritable institution when it comes to reggae. The artist has already been to Loul\u00e9 in 2009 and, for this concert, another wave of \u201cgood vibes\u201d is expected.<\/p>\n<p>Also returning to the MED stage is Amadou &amp; Mariam, coming directly from Mali. This musical duo, who were at this festival in the Algarve in 2008, achieved their global success by combining West African influences with R&amp;B and are one of the most cherished projects in the world of music.<\/p>\n<p>In Portuguese music, this year MED has one of the three concerts that will mark the 40 years of S\u00e9tima Legi\u00e3o&#039;s career; in addition to Lisbon and Porto, the band is coming to Loul\u00e9 for a commemorative show.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian Bia Ferreira starred, in May 2022, at Cineteatro Louletano, in the \u201cwarm-up\u201d for MED, and now, this voice of the struggle for LGBTQl+ rights, against racism and xenophobia, is part of this year\u2019s poster. It is hoped that this concert will be a space for clarification and, at the same time, for provocation, in defense of the causes in which he believes.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the\u00a0<strong>Music<\/strong>, o\u00a0<strong>Movie theater<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Poetry<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Theatre<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>street entertainment<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Visual arts<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Conference<\/strong>\u00a0thematic and\u00a0<strong>Gastronomy<\/strong>\u00a0are once again part of this year&#039;s program. Also the bet on\u00a0<strong>environmental sustainability<\/strong>, at\u00a0<strong>promotion of gender equality<\/strong>\u00a0and on\u00a0<strong>union of peoples<\/strong>\u00a0continue to deserve special attention from the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2004, the MED Festival has made an important contribution to the touristic projection of the Algarve region, cultural enhancement and boosting of the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>Applauded by the public and recognized by critics, the Festival MED is, once again, nominated for the\u00a0<strong>Iberian Festival Awards<\/strong>, in the following categories:\u00a0<strong>Best Medium-Size Festival, Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival, Best Tourism Promotion, Best International Performance\u00a0<\/strong>with the concert of the Colombians Guetto Kumb\u00e9<strong>, Contribution to Sustainability, Contribution to Equality and Best Photo\/David Pereira.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MED has already had 50 nominations since the beginning of these awards and was distinguished as the Best Medium-Size Festival in the Iberian Peninsula, in 2017 and 2018; Best Tourism Promotion (Portugal), in 2018 and 2020; Contribution to Sustainability in the Iberian Peninsula, in 2019; Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival in the Iberian Peninsula, in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Over these 18 editions, more than 600 bands have played at the Festival, representing more than 50 countries. During the moment of presentation to the Media and entities, which took place this Friday, the councilor of the Municipality of Loul\u00e9 and director of the Festival MED, Carlos Carmo underlined the fact that \u201cthis is a festival of world music, which tries to embrace the whole planet\u201d but which \u201cis not restricted to this cultural aspect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The person in charge addressed some of the environmental matters that have been implemented over the years at this event, with emphasis on the challenge launched in 2022 to the designers of the Loul\u00e9 Design Lab in order to reuse \u201cthe waste that is normally thrown away\u201d for furniture that has been in various spaces in the enclosure, for example puffs made of tarpaulins or tables created from plastic bottles.<\/p>\n<p>This official also underlined the tourist impact that the MED has: more than 40% of visitors are tourists and 39% of them choose to come to the Algarve and Loul\u00e9 because of the MED Festival. \u201cBesides the music, what motivates visitors the most is the experience that MED offers\u201d, said Carlos Carmo.<\/p>\n<p>Antena 1, Antena 2 and Antena 3 are once again media partners radio and other partners will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p>Pedro Mafama, one of the artists on the MED&#039;23 musical line-up, took part in this presentation at FIL and left a few words for those present: \u201cI am very excited to play at MED, it will be the first time. The city is beautiful! I will bring my next project, &#039;I was in the abyss but I took a step forward&#039;.
