\u00e9 mais do que m\u00fasica \u2014 \u00e9 uma experi\u00eancia espiritual. E n\u00e3o ser\u00e1 exagero. Cedric Myton, Ashanti Roy, Watty Burnett e Talash (o membro mais recente) mant\u00eam viva a chama do <em>roots reggae<\/em> com a mesma forma\u00e7\u00e3o essencial desde os anos 70, uma raridade no panorama musical jamaicano. A coes\u00e3o do grupo sente-se em palco, onde cada atua\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 conduzida como um verdadeiro ritual <em>rastaf\u00e1ri<\/em>, marcado por harmonias vocais que se tornaram ic\u00f3nicas. A identidade dos The Congos consolidou-se em 1977 com \u201c<em>Heart of the Congos\u201d<\/em>, \u00e1lbum m\u00edtico produzido por Lee \u201cScratch\u201d Perry nos lend\u00e1rios est\u00fadios Black Ark \u2014 um disco que figura, com justi\u00e7a, entre os marcos absolutos do <em>reggae<\/em>. Faixas como \u201cLa La Bam Bam\u201d, \u201cCongo Man\u201d ou a inesquec\u00edvel \u201cFisherman\u201d (apontada pela <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> como uma das dez melhores can\u00e7\u00f5es de <em>reggae<\/em> de sempre) revelaram ao mundo um grupo com uma sonoridade distinta, guiada pela espiritualidade <em>rasta<\/em> e por um compromisso inabal\u00e1vel com as suas ra\u00edzes.<\/p>\n<p>Fundados em 1967 por Albert Griffiths, os The Gladiators foram desde cedo inspirados pela luta e resist\u00eancia simbolizadas no filme <em>Ben-Hur<\/em>. Essa met\u00e1fora ecoou naturalmente entre a comunidade <em>rasta<\/em> e em can\u00e7\u00f5es como \u201cRoots Natty\u201d ou \u201cBongo Red\u201d, que se tornaram hinos do <em>roots reggae<\/em> dos anos 70. Mas foi com \u201c<em>Trenchtown Mix Up\u201d<\/em> (1976), lan\u00e7ado pela Virgin, que conquistaram proje\u00e7\u00e3o internacional, atuando ao lado de Toots &amp; the Maytals, U-Roy e Jimmy Cliff na Europa e nos Estados Unidos. Agora, d\u00e9cadas depois, The Congos e The Gladiators cruzam caminhos para uma digress\u00e3o conjunta que promete n\u00e3o s\u00f3 celebrar o legado do <em>reggae<\/em> cl\u00e1ssico, mas tamb\u00e9m reafirmar a sua atualidade e vitalidade.
